A router, is a tool used to profile and shape the edges of materials such as wood. Also known as an edge trimmer, this electric tool has interchangeable bits that allow for creating various profiles and decorative details on the edges of boards or wooden pieces.

Many router bits come with a small bearing that serves as a guide for edge design, preventing the bit from moving away from the edge being worked on. Other router bits, designed for tasks outside the edge, such as freeform design or rustic finishes, may not include this bearing.

After donning your safety gear, check the condition of your tool, prepare the two wrenches that come with the product, and select the router bit for your router based on the design you desire. Remove the plastic base to access the trimmer tip. If it already has a tip, place one of the wrenches on the bottom nut and the second wrench on the top nut. Apply downward pressure to bring the wrenches together and release the bit from the router. Locate the router bit you intend to use, and reposition the wrenches on their respective nuts. Apply upward pressure to bring the wrenches together, securing the bit to the router shaft.

Replace the plastic guard and use a knob to measure the distance you want the bit to extend from the router. Secure the base and turn on the machine. Position it on the edge to be profiled, advance slowly while maintaining a right angle to the piece, and gently move along the entire edge until the bearing touches the edge.

Un enrutador, también conocido como recortadora de bordes, es una herramienta utilizada para perfilar y dar forma a los bordes de materiales como la madera. Este dispositivo eléctrico cuenta con puntas intercambiables que permiten crear diversos perfiles y detalles decorativos en los bordes de tableros o piezas de madera.

Muchas puntas de enrutador vienen con un pequeño rodamiento que sirve como guía para el diseño del borde, evitando que la punta se aleje del borde en el que se está trabajando. Otras puntas de enrutador, diseñadas para tareas fuera del borde, como diseños libres o acabados rústicos, pueden no incluir este rodamiento.

Después de ponerte tus implementos de seguridad, verifica el estado de tu herramienta, prepara las dos llaves que vienen con el producto y selecciona la punta de enrutador según el diseño que desees. Retira la base de plástico para acceder a la punta de la recortadora. Si ya tiene una punta, coloca una de las llaves en la tuerca inferior y la segunda llave en la superior. Aplica presión hacia abajo para que las llaves se junten y liberen la punta del enrutador. Ubica la punta del enrutador que planeas usar y vuelve a colocar las llaves en sus respectivas tuercas. Aplica presión hacia arriba para unir las llaves y así asegurar la punta al eje del enrutador.

Vuelve a colocar el protector de plástico y, mediante un botón, mide la distancia que deseas que la punta se extienda desde el enrutador. Asegura la base y enciende la máquina. Colócala en el borde a perfilar, avanza lentamente manteniendo un ángulo recto respecto a la pieza y muévete suavemente a lo largo de todo el borde hasta que el rodamiento toque el borde.
